Litter Prevention & Recycling Program

Dear Residents,

I would like to invite you to participate in our recycling program. As you know, the City of Zanesville has been recycling since 1984 and we are proud to see residents participating in the recycling effort. This brochure is designed to outline our program and what recyclable materials we collect. The main goal of recycling is to make the best use of the materials we have in the here and now. By placing materials into the recycling loop, we become less reliant on consuming virgin materials from our planet. Used aluminum cans become new cans, used plastics become new beverage containers or new products like solid plastic dimensional lumber, used newspaper becomes new paper - the possibilities go on.

By participating in the recycling effort, each individual is also contributing to the reduction of garbage going to our landfills on a daily basis. And as you know, good landfill space is becoming scarce and harder to obtain. Also, by recycling, we are reducing the amount of solid waste that we are paying to dispose of. This plays a major role in stabilizing the sanitation billing for Zanesville residents. In essence, by recycling, we are saving ourselves from ourselves.

Please take a moment to read this brochure and follow the guidelines. The city of Zanesville makes the recycling effort as easy and simple as possible. All of the materials can be placed in one bag. You don’t have to separate them. All that we ask is that you follow the following guidelines to ensure a smooth collection process. If you have any questions, please contact the Sanitation Department at 740-455-0626.

Thank you for recycling.

Sincerely,
Superintendent
